How to tune in

Family Care Radio is internet radio rather than traditional radio, so tuning in means clicking on a link rather than twiddling a radio dial.

Understanding how it works

The monthly Family Care Radio programme is made up of a series of podcasts or audio files that have been uploaded to this website.  Some people call it 'podcasting' rather than 'broadcasting',  as the technology used makes it quite different to traditional radio.  If you are confused at all, watch this video:

Why Internet radio for carers?

Carers are busy people, so we want to provide you with choices.  You listen to internet radio programmes 'on demand'.  That means you don't have to tune in at a particular time, but can listen to the whole programme, or parts of the programme, whenever it suits you ... 24/7!

You can also download parts of the programme to a handheld device such as an iPod, and listen to them wherever you choose.  You may have a few minutes to fill in while waiting for the doctor (try one of Anna's meditations) or you may want to get out of the house and take a walk (try listening to an ACC Active Wellness five minute feature).

When and where you listen is up to you!

Setting up

You can listen to audio files on your computer either through headphones or speakers.  To set up your speakers or headphones for the first time:

  1. Plug the connection into the computer (the colour of the input is usually light green, and the socket is either on the front or back of the hard drive)
  2. Adjust the volume on the headphones or speakers themselves
  3. On the computer there are two ways to adjust the volume - either through the 'settings' or by clicking on the volume icon
  4. You can further adjust the volume on the pop-up Family Care Radio player

How to start listening

Go to the Latest Show and click on the link for Part 1, and then Part 2.  This is the full show and includes additional information from the show hosts, and about useful services for carers.

You can also listen to the separate features that make up the show either by clicking on the link underneath the descriptions on the Latest or Previous Show pages, or by using the list on the left hand side of the page under Main Features or Five Minute Features.

Note:  If you have a dial up internet connection, it may take some time for the audio file to 'buffer' or download into the player.  Be patient - it's worth waiting for!

How to download the show to your MP3 player

  1. Right click on the link that points to the file
  2. Choose 'Save target as...' or 'Save file as'
  3. Give the file a name and save into your directory
